FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

All the Answers You Seek, In One Place

Have a question you’d like to ask? I’m committed to giving clients the best care and experience I can. There’s no such thing as a bad question when it comes to mental health. Check out the answers to the FAQs below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any additional questions.

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

No. At this time, I do not take insurance.

When you see a therapist through your insurance, that insurance agency has access to your records to include assessments and diagnosis. There are often things discussed within therapy that clients wish to remain private, not open to their insurance agents or billing companies.

In fact, most insurances REQUIRE clients to receive a diagnosis in order to continue services. This often puts counselors in difficult positions when a client does not meet criteria for a diagnosis but needs insurance to continue covering costs. Many people who seek counseling do not qualify for a diagnosis. If you are going to counseling for something 'non-diagnoseable' then your services may not be covered by insurance and you may end up footing the bill unexpectedly.

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

It is important to me that therapy is an accessible service. One of the primary benefits of working via telehealth is that I am able to keep overhead costs low which has a direct impact on costs to clients. Clients may schedule for the entirety of a 'therapeutic hour' or may wish to meet in smaller segments. Contact me to get more information on session pricing.

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

The traditional 'therapeutic hour' is actually 45-55 minutes. This is to allow therapists time to capture proper documentation of your session as well as to clear their mind and take a break before their next session.

If you need more or less time in a session, please let me know and we may be able to tailor a session time that works for you.

HOW LONG WILL I NEED THERAPY FOR?

Unfortunately, there is no clear answer for this. The time frame for therapy depends largely on why a person is seeking therapy and the goals they have for themselves. Everyone is unique. Generally, most clients participate in between 5-12 sessions. You and I will work closely together to discuss your timeline of therapy and what will work best for you.

CAN YOU PROVIDE MEDICATION?

No. A licensed professional counselor cannot provide medication or give medical advice. If you believe you require medication, you will need to see a psychiatrist or discuss with your PCP.  If medication seems like it may be a helpful option for you, we will have a conversation about it in therapy.

IS THERAPY CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important aspects of therapy. Everything you say in therapy will stay confidential. I have a legal and ethical obligation to maintain your privacy. This means that I will not share any information about you outside of our therapy sessions. This includes your family, friends, employer, law enforcement, or doctors. This even includes if you are no longer a client of mine.

Sometimes, clients wish for their information to be shared to specific people (such as a doctor or family member). If this happens, I will need written consent from you to share this information.

When you begin therapy, you will be given documentation about confidentiality and the limits to it. There are limits. The times where I am legally required to break confidentiality include:

1. If there is suspected abuse against a child, disabled person or an elderly person. In this case, I will called protective services to make a report.

2. If I have reason to believe that you are a danger to yourself (suicidal) or someone else (homicidal).

3. Court subpoena
